Is Tylenol With Codeine Better Off For An Injured And A Swollen Knee?
my Mom is 76, taking metformin, lasix, lisiopril, clonodine and ibuprofen. Her "good" knee was recently injured and is swollen. She is recovering from pneumonia, and is in a convalescent home where they are helping her to regain her strength so that she can walk again and go home. aaathe doctors want to give her an anti-inflammatory (ibuprofen) and a pain killer. I am wondering it tylenol with codeine is btter and if they could possibly change some of the other meds?
The anti-inflammatory analgesics like ibuprofen would be better for her than tylenol with codeine. Codeine can cause respiratory depression and since your mother is recovering from pneumonia, it will be better to avoid codeine. Moreover, codeine will just lessen the pain but not reduce the swelling. On the other hand, anti-inflammatory analgesics will lessen the pain as well as the swelling, and therefore would be better for her.
Best wishes.
