Is Wearing Air Cast Boot Without Shell Safe For MTP Fracture In Foot?

I have a 1st MTP fracture on my right foot. My doctor recommended an air cast boot to help my mobility at work. Can I wear the boot without inserting the shell? Inserting the shell causes too much pain right now on the fracture. I am just concerned that if I don t insert the shell, I may do further damage? I have the liner strapped up tight along my calf and my foot does not move too much, but the liner across my foot is not quite as tight due to the pain.

Hello, the best way to treat the fracture would be, not to bear weight on the affected leg and walk with the help of crutches or a walker for a minimum period of 4 to 6 weeks from the date of injury. You might be off work for sometime but that's how the treatment goes. If inserting shell causes pain then it is better avoided. Get well soon.
