Is Weight Gain A Side Effect Of Taking Dexilant And Can I Continue This Medicine?
I have been taking Dexilant for over a year now. Should I continue? I have not had any problems. Just wondering if there can be any permanent conditions if I continue taking it., Also, is weight gain part of the side effects?Email address is YYYY@YYYY Any dangers in prolong use? Thanks Judy
Internal Medicine Specialist, Dr. Ivo Ditah's Response
Hi and thanks for this query.
Weight gain is not direct side effect of this drug. However, increased calories intake is the principal cause of weight gain in patients when taking drugs that may increase their appetite for food. I will like that you follow up with your treating doctor to evaluate the current treatment and make the decision on whether it is safe to continue or not. What guides the duration here is your response and the evolution of the disease and nor arbitrary deadlines.
I hope this helps. I wish you well.
