Itching, Redness After Taking Shingles Vaccine. Taking Medication For Rheumatoid Arthritis. Normal?
I had the shingles vaccine yesterday and today I have itching and redness around the site, along with this I have severe pain in the hand of the arm where the vaccine was administered. Is this a normal condition or should I see my doctor? I am a 60 year old male with rheumetiod arthuritis taking hydroxychloroquin , metformin, fluoxetine, losartan, metoprolol, and spironolactome.
I am so sorry to hear about these itches and the pains you are experiencing after receiving the shinglesvaccine. i am however happy that you are taking active measures to prevent severe disease before it strikes.
These local reactions though not common are normal. They should gradually subside within 48hours without any specific treatment..If they should persist, then please consult for the doctors to examine and investigate if there is any other possible cause to this. For now, cold packs and a pain medication can relief symptoms.
I hope this helps and thank you so much for using our services. Feel free to request for more information if need be. I wish you good health. Dr. Ditah, MD
