Itchy Feeling In Chest In Left Side, Feeling Of Stroke. Diagnosed With Severe Anxiety And High BP. On Medication. Help

I have just been diagnosis with High blood pressure. I went to the doctor when I started to swell, my ankles looked deformed. I have a very bad anxiety attack and I thought I was going to have a stoke. I am only 31 years old male. I have had an EKG, blood test, and chest ex-ray. Everything check out normally and the doctor said that I was healthy. He said my anxiety and blood pressure was really high. I have been taking Xanax for about two years for my anxiety. Now I am taking Amlodipine Besylate 5 MG for the blood pressure and Indapamide1.25 MG for the swelling. Now I have an itching feeling on the inside of my upper chest on the left side. My anxiety seems to be worst. I feel like I am going to have a stoke. What is going on with me. Any help could ease my worries.

Hi and thanks for the query,

The main issue with hypertension, and its good it has already been diagnosed, is to be compliant to treatment. However, in your case, I suggest two things have to be done again, based on the clinical scenario of a history of limb swelling as you describe.

First, hypertension and diabetes generally go together. Screening for diabetes and doing a serum lipid profile to check various cholesterol levels and types is fundamental.

Limb swelling warrants formal exclusion of heart failure and kidney disease. I suggest a cardiac ultrasound and kidney function tests, While waiting to get there, remain compliant to the recommendations of your doctor, exercise, eat much vegetable, reduce saturated fat diet.

Thanks and kind regards,

Bain LE, MD.
