Knee Cap Sore And Swollen, Patch Of Skin That Is Red And Sensitive. Remedy?

Hi I fell hard on my knee cap one week ago now it is very sore swollen and I'm on krutches though I can seem to put pressure on it I just can't bend or extend it iv noticed since yesterday on the outside of my leg there is a patch of skin that is very red and sensitive like a sunburn and extremly hot to touch is it an infection? There was never any Brocken skin so I don't understand and I don't know what to do

Hi and welcome to HCM. Thank you for your query.

It is unlikely to be infected if there wasnt open wound and bleeding. It seems to be posttarumatic swelling and it should pull back in several days unless there is some more serious ligaments and menisceal damage. Redness may be caused by skin irritation. YOu just ned to rest, apply some ice, and keep leg elevated. If symptoms persist or progress,you need to seek medical attention.
