Knee Swollen And Bruised Due To Fall. Could I Have Damaged A Tissue Or Hurt A Cartilage?
I hit my knee really hard last Tuesday and is bruised and painful and swollen, I had an x-ray and the patella is fine, but they refused an MRI s the Nhs hospital don t do that, so they couldn t see whether I have damaged any soft tissue , as I had a previous arthroscopy on the same knee I am quite anxious , do u think if there is any chance if I hurt my cartilage or meniscus? Thanx
HI, Since the knee had a direct impact, and fracture was ruled out , the possibilities are 1) Contusion of the knee 2) ACL tear ( since the force was from ant to post.)
TREATMENT: 1) Rest 2) Immobilization ( knee brace ) 3) Ice pack 4) After 5 days ,once swelling comes down, repeat clinical assessment to check for ACL.If strongly suspected, MRI SCAN is the plan.

HI, Since the knee had a direct impact, and fracture was ruled out , the possibilities are 1) Contusion of the knee 2) ACL tear ( since the force was from ant to post.) ( Meniscus tear is unlikely since there was no twisting injury ) TREATMENT: 1) Rest 2) Immobilization ( knee brace ) 3) Ice pack 4) After 5 days ,once swelling comes down, repeat clinical assessment to check for ACL.If strongly suspected, MRI SCAN is the plan.
