Large Blood Clot In Urine After Sex, Pink And Bloody During Next 2 Urination, Now Clear. Any Ideas?
Hi, I have just passed a very large blood clot in my urine. I am a 42 year old male, and this occurred about 2 hours after sex. There was no trauma during sex and no evidence of blood at the time. When I tried to urinate after an hour, I initially passed blood then was unable to continue urination despite really needing to go. It took another hour of trying (and a couple of pints of water) before I was able to force the clot out. It was around 2 inches long by 3/4 inch wide, and very gelatinous. My urine was pink and bloody for the next 2 urinations and is now clear. I have no pain. Any ideas?
Blood in the urine is always a red flag and warrants further investigation. There are alot of things that can cause blood in the urine (hematuria) and the most common would be infection and lnflammation. Strenuous physical activity may also cause blood in the urine. The most dreaded cause of hematuria would be malignancy. This is the reason that we usually work up patients with a urinalysis and a kidneyurinary bladderultrasound to rule out infection and malignancy or cancer.
