Left Eye Swelling After Blowing Nose. Scan Done. Bactrim Prescribed. Advise?

My son blew his nose this morning and now his left eye is swollen shut. Sat at the hospital for 5 hours and came out with nothing. They did a scan and claim he had a fracture at one time. Gave him a prescription for bactrim and sent him on his way. Called the doctors he was referred to and they said they don't see patients for something like this. If an ENT doesn't see someone for this then who does and what else can be done to reduce the swelling?

Hi,

You have not mentioned the age of your child.Eye lid swelling post blowing is not a very common phenomenon.Hence the CTScan must have been done to rule out extension of the bleed or fracture.

The reason for spontaneous eyelid swelling the most common reason is an injury around the eye post trauma,an infection ,fragile blood vessel and blood disorders and also a spontaneous shoot up of blood pressure .

Since it is an eye problem he should be referred to Ophtalmologist who could assess and check the pressure of the eye.

At present you could keep the eye clean with water and could give him painkiller if it pains.

Bye
Take care.
