Leg Cramps, Overweight, High Cholesterol, Planning Compression Socks. Should I Ask For A Blood Thinning Injection Before I Fly?

I have been having problems with cramps in my legs recently (past six months) most notably when sitting down at my desk at work and eases off when i stand up. I am overweight and high cholesterol but BP normal and am due to fly long haul next week I am going to wear compression socks but am still concerned about the effects that the flight may have. I am due to see my GP before I fly and going to discuss this with him again - but he seems to think much of this is anxiety (yes I do have some but not excessive!!) and I am not sure that I will convince home there is a problem again!! Any ideas about how I can persuade him to take me seriously and should I ask for a blood thinning injection before I fly ??

Hi,

Thanks for consulting HealthcareMagic!

I personally do not recommend the use of blood thinning injection unless there is clear cut indication for it. The reason is it has lots of drug interactions, side effects and contraindications. If you are more concerned that you are having some problem related to blood clotting, I suggest you to undergo blood tests which would detect clotting disorders and doppler ultrasound which detects deep vein thrombosis in leg veins. Let me know if you have have any clarifications.

Hi, it appears to be the anxiety about the air travel, and you need to have treatment, for this. the cramps in the legs could be due to the cholesterol, it should be kept under control.
I advise you to consult a physician for diagnosis and treatment. practice some diversion procedures like yoga and meditation.
Thank you.
