Lips Got A Cold Sore, That Healed. Recurring Again. What To Do ?
Hi, I am a brass player. My lips got a cold sore about a month ago. I let it heal over three days, but I began playing again before it was fully healed because I have an international convention to play at in about a month. Since the intial outbreak , I have had another outbreak and my lips look much worse ((6-7 sores). I dont know whats going on. What do I need to do?
Hi.. Thanks for the query
In certain people , cold sores or herpes simplex infection tends to be very recurrent.therapy is effective when started within 48 hrs of therapy. The common medications used are Acyclovir , Valacyclovir. Recurrence is reduced by the therapy given in between attacks monthly for a few days.
It is common to have a superimposed bacterial infection on the lesions .topical anti biotic creams can be applied to reduce them.
You can consult a dermatologist to get a prescriptions for continuous prophylaxis .Now you can start application of anti biotic creams like Fusidic acid or Mupirocin to reduce superimposed bacterial infections.
Hope this helps. Take care!
