Lower Back Pain, Stiffness. Suggestions?

was bending over to get an item out of the back seat of my car and had the worst pain hit me in my lower back
I could not stand up, I leaned up against the car and in a few minutes was able to stand (not without pain)
and continue to walk to my front door My back feels ok today but very stiff? What could have caused this I am 76
and am not overweight.

dear sir, the history and symptoms suggest that the pain is due to muscle sprain only which require local application of analgesic like diclofenac. if the pain is adjacent to the spine it confirms the diagnosis. if pain does not settle, you would require further evaluation. X ray lumbar spine anteroposterior and lateral films to rule out any disc bulge / protrusion. pathological fractures are a possibility at this age and should be ruled out.
