Meniscus Tear In Right Knee. MRI Shows Sprain In ACL. Healing Time?
i have a meniscus tear in my right knee mri says degenerative tear in posterior horn of medial meniscus with sprain in acl the wound is one year back though i recoverd a lot sometimes i feel uncomfortable with my knee and it pains when i do strssfull activities my question is in future by the passage of time will my wound heal completely so that i can do all activities pls reply sir
Hi,Thanks for writing to HCM. This is just to educate you that most of the meniscus is avascular (without blood supply) except for the peripheral part. So if a tear occurs in the avascular part ,it wont heal. Also, you have not mentioned the grading of meniscal tear. If it is Gr I tear, it may heal. In Gr II & III tears, the healing is unlikely. For routine activities of daily living, meniscal tears may not give much trouble. But if you involve in sporting activities, you may develop pain and effusion with recurrences. If you are vexed up with pain, then an arthroscopic menisectomy is a good option. Hope this helps
