Menopause Came With Irregular Bleeding. Bleeding Stopped For Years, Again Started, Constant Bleeding. When Will It Stop?

Menopause came with irregular bleeding for 2 yrs, then it all stopped for 4 yrs, then it suddenly started again where the bleeding lasted constant for 1year, then tappered off into the 2nd year, which is the year I am in now. I have to wear a pad daily, because there may be heavy to light bleeding, I never know. How long before it stops again? I gained 65 lbs and the sweating after my showers is coming to a halt after 2 years.

OBGYN 's  Response
Hi,
It is not common for such a prolonged period of bleeding to happen after attaining menopause and this should certainly be checked. I would ask you to get a complete evaluation from a gynecologist, get a pap smear, endometrial scrapings, vaginal swab and a trans-vaginal sonogram. All the possible causes for such a bleeding irregularity should be looked into. A complete hormonal profile, blood counts, and urinalysis also should be done. Treatment is based on the cause and may include hormone replacement, styptics, nutritional supplements, exercise, maintenance of healthy weight and diet. Hope this helps.
