Miscarriage During Early Pregnancy, Advised Genetic Blood Test. Family History Of Balanced Translocation Carrying. Chances Of Acquiring The Same Traits?

I am a balanced translocation carrier I am the mother of 2 healthy adults My son is 33 with 2 healthy children-no problems My daughter 31 just had a miscarriage at 6-7 wks. I have told her that a genetic blood test would be a good idea for her and her husband before trying to conceive again. How likely is she to have similar problems as myself I also had 6 miscarriages and 2 healthy children

Hello and welcome,
The translocation is a balanced one. It all depends on which chromosome it is and how much she has inherited.
The chromosomes are paired and one comes from the mother and another from father. You had 2 affected chromosomes. So if you gave her one abnormal chromosome, the father gave her one normal then she has inherited only 50% of the balanced translocation. So the likelihood that she passes the affected one to her kids is 50%. Meaning that most likely some babies will be affected and some normal.

However all these speculations are meaning less until we have results of genetic analysis of her as well as her husband. Then the risks can be predicted more accurately.

So please get these done.

Hope this satisfies your query.
