Movable Lump In The Groin Area Of An Infant. Normal Blood Test Report. Should Be Concerned?
Hello: My 16 month old daughter has a hard lump on her right groin . Lump is around 1cm big, it is firm and movable. Is this abnormal in infants? We had her blood work done about month ago and everything was ok, Other than the lump, her behavior is as usual (high energy, eating well etc)We are trying to get hold of her doctor and take her in, but in a meantime, I was wondering if I could get more information. Thank you for your time.

hello there,
this seems to be an enlarged lymph node to me.
lymph node greater than 1cm may be abnormal during infancy, so needs to be worked up.
enlargement of lymph node is generally secondary to infection in the draining area of the node or some blood disorders or due to the some chronic infection.
it would be better to talk to your doctor to check for any signs of systemic illness of which it may be a part of. you may be asked for repeat blood work.
but if there are no other symptoms or enlarged lymph nodes anywhere else on body, there should be nothing to worry, it could just be reactive hyperplasia of node.

hello, good afternoon, by the complaints u have posted i feel that your child might be having a hernia or just an enlarged inguinal lymphnode, kindly get a surgeon or a pediatrician examine your child. do not delay , because if it is hernia it might get obstructed if not recognised or treated soon.

The cause of the lymph node enlargement can be varied like any injury to the limbs or skin infection or genital infection etc. Considering your child doesn't have any such symptoms another possibility is that of a recent immunisation or viral fever . In such cases lymph nodes enlarge as a body's immune response and this is self resolving . Watch for any changes or self resolution in 2-3 weeks . If persistent contact your doctor promptly.
