Muscle Pain, Abdominal Pain. SGOT Levels Shot Up, Bilirubin Is Abnormal. Tested For Hepatitis B And C. Suggestion?

Hi, I'm 34 years old. I'm not an alkoholic. I have come to a different place on 28th april & has a change of water. My SGOT level had gone upto 1203 & SGPT had gone upto 124 on 2nd may 2013. After I stopped exercise & took good rest, on 3rd may, it came down to 740 & 104 respectively. Tests for Hepatatis B & C are negative. Bilirubin is 0.5. All other parameters in LFT, KFT & blood sugar, Cholesterol tests are within normal range. Abdomen, KUB & Hepatobiliary USG is normal. I had done some strenuous exercise excessively for abdomen and also played badminton & squash also from 29th April to 2nd May. I had severe muscle pain in abdomen on 1st & 2nd may. I had taken 3 paracetemol & diclo feniac tablets also. I had taken a sauna bath on 1st may evening after exercise. I also had a cloudy urine on 2nd may. My urine test results on 2nd were worrisome. However, my urine is normal after 11 am on 2nd may. Subsequent urine test results are normal. Today My doctor said that this has happened due to strenuous excessive exercise. I also found similar reasoning on internet. He has prescribed me no medicine & advised rest & said that liver will recover on it's own within few days. He has told me to check SGOT & SGPT levels tomorrow to confirm downward trend. Please advise.

Hi !
Thank you for your query.

Looking into your problem i agree with what your doctor is telling you. Excessive muscle exercise can lead to this and since it improved on taking rest and avoiding exercise supports the diagnosis further. Still i would advise you to have CPK and Serum aldolase levels done to rule out any muscle disorder. You can follow up with me after the reports so that i will be able to guide you further.

Hope you are satisfied with the answer.
If you have any further queries feel free to ask.
Wish you good health.
Take care.

Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The mild rise in the liver enzymes that you have is not worrisome. This is most commonly seen due to fatty liver if there is no alcohol intake or liver infections. The dietary modifications and hepatoprotective medicines will help in decreasing the levels to normal.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
Regards,
Dr. Praveen Tayal
