My 7 Months Baby Has A Constant Runny Nose And Sleeps Badly. Has A Constant Runny Nose And Sleeps Badly

Hi, My now nearly 7 month old son has been suffering with repeated otitis media and tonsillitis for over 4 months. He has had many GP visits and many antibiotics with little effect most of the time, fever is also common when he is unwell also. He has a constant runny nose and sleeps badly. Can you tell me what you think this may be?? Many thanks

Hi,

Are you sure your child is 7 months old? Or is it 7 years? It is indeed rare to get tonsillitis at such an early age (i.e. at 7months). Please, confirm the age again to continue the discussion.

Hi,

Has any Blood investigation been done for the child? To rule out other medical causes of ulcer tonsils. It can be of a viral pathology, going by your description. Only symptomatic treatment is enough as the viral cause is self limiting. Please, give nutritious food to boost up the immunity of the child.

He had FBC done when we were at the hosp but they could not obtain enough blood to culture any other investigations, this was normal. He sleeps badly and I have noticed so much mucus from his nose. He also makes noises when he sleeps like his nansal passages are small. He is a breastfed baby who tolerates solids well, I would say his nutrition levels are excellent at the moment but I will do as you have suggested. Thanks.

Hi,

You can use saline nasal drops 1-2 drops 3-4times/day. This will clear of the mucus secretions and the child can breathe comfortably.
