My Father Just Had Spinal Surgery And On His Back He Has Broken Out In A Raised Rash

My father just had spinal surgery and on his back he has broken out in a raised rash. His adhesive bandage was removed 36 hours ago and the rash seems to have spread and is still looking raised and inflamed. He is complaining of itching but not pain, however, he is on pain medication for his surgery. Could this possibly be anything else besides an allergic reaction to the adhesive.

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi,

It seems to be an allergic reaction to adhesive. I would recommend you to apply topical steroid like cortisone cream on the affected areas twice daily and take anti-histaminic like tablet cetirizine 10 mg once or twice daily depending on the intensity of itching.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Asmeet Kaur Sawhney, Dermatologist
