Nasal Cauterization Done On A Child. Pain And Bleeding. Is This Normal?

I have just taken my 2.5 year old son for his nose cauterizing, the doctor used a cotton swab nothing else. His nose started bleeding straight after and the doctor has stuffed a gause up his nose and told me to take him back in 2 days for it removing. My sons nose is still hurting 2 hours later he is crying in pain and blood is seeping is this right?

Hi,

Thank you for your query.

I am a bit confused as you mention that you took your son for cauterization but the doctor packed it with gauze. Was cauterization done or was just nasal packing done?

Following cauterization there is usually no need of doing a nasal packing.

If only nasal packing has been done then the child will have some discomfort as there is pressure on the area and oozing of blodd may be present.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your son an early recovery.
