Hi,I am Diwashish Biswas (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Nausea, Fatigue, Bloating, Diarrhea. History Of PCOs. Increased Metformin Dosage. Remedy For Side Effects?
I recently had my Metformin increased from 500 mg/once daily to twice daily. I'm light-headed, nauseous, dizzy, very tired, bloated, have abdominal cramping and diarrhea. I don't have diabetes, but I do have PCOS which makes me prone to metabolic syndrome. I've been on Metformin for many years once daily. Do these side effects go away with time? and how long?
Metformin is known to cause abdominal pain and cramps, bloating, diarrhea, fatigue muscle pain, nausea and vomiting, and other GI symptoms. It would be best to take the drug with meals to avoid these symptoms.Unfortunately these symptoms may persist if the drug is continued, serious side effects are usually rare with metformin.
