Need Diagnostic Explanation On Urine Test Results.

My 7 month old son had a bout of fever for a couple of days. His pediatrician suggested to go in for a urine examination. On examining, the pus cells were about 25-30/hpf and the doctor concluded this to be a urinary infection that has caused the fever and has prescribed Cefixime Oral Suspension IP.

My question is :
1. Is the prescription and diagnosis in line with the symptom / root cause
2. Does this medicine have an immediate effect of reducing the fever and restoring normalcy
3. Does this have any side effects

Welcome to healthcaremagic
Your child's reports are suggestive of urinary tract infection. It is the cause of fever.Cefixime is the drug of choice for it.It should be given for 14 days. Before stopping it repeat urine test.After course is over she should be put on UTI prophylaxis.
All medicine have side effects.But cefixime is generally well tolerated with minimum side effects
