Newborn Baby Having Painful Purple Colored Rash On The Ear Lobe. Treatment?

Hi, I have a 2 week old baby and his right ear lobe is a dark red/purple colour, raised and the skin is rough to touch. It obviously hurts him for me to touch his ear. I have started putting some breast milk on it over the last 2 days. His appointment with the doctor isn t for a month but I am concerned that I should be doing something about it now.

Hi,

Thank you for your query.

I presume the condition is from birth. In this case you need not do anything. Some congenital abnormailites of the blood vessels can give such an appearance and nothing needs to be done in this case. Haemangioms, as they are called, grow till the end of first year and thereafter shrink. If any procedure has to be done to improve the look then it shall be done subsequently.

In case the skin condition has occurred in the past day or two then it is better to consult your doctor.
