Normal To Have Spotty Periods After Stopping Depo Injections? Bleeding After Sex

Hello, My name is Shelby I am 17 and I was just wondering after stopping depo injections is it normal to have a spotty period? It s been like this for about three weeks and it becomes costly to keep purchasing feminine products every week. It s not a heavy flow it is simply a brownish and sometimes red spotting. Intimacy seems to effect it as well, as afterwards I seem to bleed a bit. I just need to know if I should make an appointment with my doctor. Thank you

Hi Ms. Shelby,
It is common for menstrual irregularities after stopping hormonal contraception and sometimes you may not see a period for quite sometime. You should see a gynecologist as you also have post coital bleeding. You would need a trans-vaginal sonogram, physical evaluation and possibly blood counts. If you have gained weight while on the Depo-shot, please try to lose some excess weight and try to maintain a healthy weight, healthy diet and do some regular exercise. Hope you find this information helpful. Wish you good health.
