Noticeable Lump On The Neck Of A Child. What Is The Cause?

I just noticed a lump on the side of my son s neck . He s seven. It s very noticeable from both the front and back profile. What is the most common cause for something like this? Should I be worried? I am. Will take him to pediatrician tomorrow but wonder if ear, nose and throat specialist might be better. Thanks. Heather

Dear heather,
The first possibility of lump on neck is Lymph node enlargement. This happens if he gets infection on that area.
The other possibility is inflammation or eruption of boil but in that case it causes pain on touching.
The most remote possibility is Lipoma which is a fat collection.
Don't worry any one of above may not create serious problem. Just consult Pediatrician he will diagnosed it.Thanks.
