Noticed Pain & Gastric Problem On The Right Side Of The Stomach

Just recently in the last couple of weeks I have had sever pain in my right side, I ended up in the emergency room only to find out I had a large amount of bowel and gas on that side. After an enema they did a c scan and saw large amounts of gas. Did not tell me what cause it or how to get rid of it other than take a laxative for the next few day. I am back to being constipated and full of gas and absolutely miserable. What can I do to get rid of the gas? Thank you, Jill

Hi.
Thank for your query.
Noted the history of severe pain on your right side for a couple of weeks, landed up in the ER to find out large amount of feces and gases, after enema they did CT scan and and found out large amount of gases, asked to take laxatives and never told the reasons. You are back to constipation and finds miserable. Wants to know what to do to get rid of gases.
The commonest cause of gases in constipation is overgrowth of bacteria that produce gas and hence the excessive production of gas which is retained due to constipation or impacted fecoliths.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
To get saline plus soap enema which alone can help complete evacuation, needs to be confirmed by X-rays.
Once clear, get prepared for colonoscopy, the preparation further helps to clean all the bowel of any feces.
Colonoscopy may find a cause like a stricture or mass if at all present, to be biopsied.
If the colonoscopy is normal, then the constipation is related to stress and/or anxiety. or changed bowel habits due to whatsoever reasons.
Notice the foods and beverages that help in evacuation and continue these; stop the ones that cause constipation.
Increase natural fibers in diet and may be needed to take a supplement.
I hope, this answer helps you.
