Hi Ella,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic and thanks for your question...
I understand that it must be very distressing for you to go through what you are experiencing. You have mentioned that you have been having repeated thoughts about certain topics which are causing you immense distress and resulting in
insomnia. From the brief history which you have given, your symptoms may be indicative of
OCD.
OCD (
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) is a type of
anxiety disorder in which people have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings or ideas (obsessions), or repeated, unwanted behaviors, acts or rituals (compulsions). These thoughts / acts are repetitive, intrusive and the person realizes that they are unwanted / irrational, but finds it difficult to stop them.
From your description, it seems that your symptoms are causing you significant distress and disruption of your routine functioning. If that is the case, then I feel that you should definitely seek help. Help is available in various forms... medication,
behaviour therapy, talking therapies, etc.
I would suggest that you first talk to someone close to you about your problem and also have a consultation with a
psychiatrist. Often, people with OCD receive treatment late because they hesitate to seek help due to embarrassment. You don't have to be suffering in silence or feel alone. So, please do not hesitate to seek help.
