Old Aged Woman, Alzheimers, Had Fracture Of The Collar Bone, Physio Painful, Swollen And Hot Hands, No Movement In Arm, On Medicines. Suggestions?
My mother is 91 and living in a rest home and has alzheimers she had a fall five weeks ago and broke her collar bone was in hospital for several days and was sent home with arm in collar and cuff. She saw physio last week who gave her some exercises to do but she finds them too painful andI have now noticed her hand is swollen and quite hot! She has no movement in her arm at all and is taking tramadol tabsI think for the pain - any ideas ?
It looks to me that she might be having RSD. This is a disease which can cause swelling and pain and it is triggered by fracture in hand(like in clavicle in your case). I would suggest you to show it to a orthopaedic surgeon and get checked if your symptoms are matching with this disease.I also want to tell you that it is a self limiting disease and it may heal by its own in a year. During that time you need physiotherapy, Wax bath and amytryptalin tablet daily.
