On Clopidogrel Bisulphate. Having Nose Bleeds. How Does It Help Her From Getting Stroke Or Heart Attack?
My 92 yr old mother is on clopidogrel bisulfate 75 mg, 1/2 in a.m. and 1/2 in p.m. She has constant nose bleeds and asked her physician if she could try 1/2 dose to see if that would help. He said no. She weighs only 105 and very tiny built. She wants to know how that would impact her chance of another heart attack or stroke .
Hello ken.kaybower
Welcome to HCM
Clopidogrel is a medicine that is used to inhibit the formation of clots in blood vessels by causing inhibition of aggregation of platelets. And stroke or Heart Attack occurs when blood vessels supplying the specific area are blocked by clot or detached clot (emboli). So clopidogrel helps in preventing clot formation and consequent stroke.
In higher doses inhibition of aggregation may cause bleeding also which is "cost of doing business". Nasal bleeds in her is due to clopidogrel. Kindly discuss with her attending doctor regarding the problem so that he could either change or reduce the dose if possible.
Thanks
Hope I cleared your doubt.
