Depression is a serious illness and there are treatment options available for it. Severe depression can be associated with the self harm thoughts that you are describing. In your best interest and in the interest of your son, it would be best to seek the assistance of a doctor who would be able to evaluate you for depression and initiate appropriate treatment.
If appropriate medication can be started and continued, your illness should improve.
Methadone is indicated for drug addiction detox and as a maintenance medication. It is not normally used to treat depression.
I hope this helps
