On Amoxicillin. Over Dose. Why Is The Baby Irritated Now?
I gave my 11 month old (18lbs) the prescribed dosage of amoxcillian 5ml. She seemed to be drastically irritable when I laid her down for a nap. Then 6 hours later I gave her the same dosage before bed... Only after the fact, I realized she wasn t suppose to have another dosage until 12 hours later... When going down to sleep for the night she became extremely irritable and wasn t able to be consoled w/anything for 1.5hours. In addition, she seemed to be very upset, scared, and confused when her Dad tried to pick her up and console her. Again, all these behaviors are out of her normal or typical reactions... She usually goes to bed w/out a fuss, and always reaches for her Dad... Is this a reaction to the drug and the amount that I gave her? I want to discontinue it...

The total amount of amox given to the child 6 hours apart wont amount to toxicity. The frequency of dosing of amox is 8th hourly and not 12th hourly so kindly recheck with your doctor the prescription given.
If she is inconsolable, it probably is due to some other cause. She was probably averse to taking the medication in the first place and children around one year are aware of such happenings. Hopefully she would settle down.
