On And Off Severe Pain In Leg Below The Knee. History Of Fall. X-ray Report Normal. What Could Be Wrong?
Thursday, I tried to jump over a creek, and led with my left leg. When I landed, I felt a sharp pain in my leg below the knee. Friday, I had it X-rayed, and it isn't broken. It felt fine early afternoon. Friday night, the pain woke me up and was rather severe. I needed a crutch Saturday morning, but again it felt fine by early afternoon. Would you care to venture a guess as to what is wrong, and what steps I should take in order for it to heal?
hi there, though the x-ray may not show any fracture, the knee is a complex joint with lots of ligaments, and articular cartilages. The jump may have caused a tear in one of these ligaments or the articular cartilage and that explains why you are finding some relief on taking rest. My suggestion would be to use a knee supporting bandage or socks which are readily available in any pharmacy and give rest to the joint along with anti-inflammatory drugs like brufen which you should take for 5 days along with an antacid. If there is no relief from pain even after this then you will need to get an MRI done to rule out ligament tear or meniscal damage. Hope this helps, take care.
