On High Dosage Of Morphine Due To Constant Pain In Knee After Breaking The Prosthetic. Can We Replace It Now?

My husband was treated for a sarcoma in his twenties. His left knee and part of the bone above and below the knee was replaced. At the time it was a new mega prosthetic, surgery went well cancer has been in remission for over twenty years. The problem is during his physical therapy the prosthetic was over extended and broke. After attempts to fix this problem they realized they was going to have to put him under and reconstruct to prosthetic. Only problem is each time they put him under he coded (three times they had to bring him back) we have not been able to find s doctor that will touch his issue now. Twenty years into this not only do wet not have the funds to take care of it if we found a doctor. But every doctor turns him away. The leg is now about a foot or more shorter then the right, he lives on morphine (high doses three times a day) constant pain. He works construction and works like life had never been better. I m at my end I don t know where else to turn. Any suggestions?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The broken prosthetic can be replaced but it depends on the position of the surrounding tissues of the knee. This needs a direct physical examination to decide.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
