On Ovranette. Missed Period. Take A Pregnancy Test?
I was due to come onto my period on Tuesday, my period arrived but has been a lot lighter than normal so I thought it would be sensible to take a pregnancy test at my local young peoples clinic. The result was negative but I am concerned that taking the test whilst on my period (if it is a period as opposed to spotting) could have made the result come back as a false negative. I am on the pill (ovranette) and I am always sure to take it correctly, I had a stomach bug last month but this occurred during my pill free week.
Hi Emily,
Thanks for writing in.
In your case, a urine pregnancy test is not indicated. It would be indicated if you had missed your period. Having light bleeding does not amount to having missed your period. Additionally, Ovranette is one of the best contraceptives available with an extremely low failure rate.
So it is extremely unlikely that you conceived. In any case, a urine pregnancy test is done 1 week after the missed period using an early morning urine sample. It takes that much of time to become positive.
Hope this helps
Regards
