Pain In Heel After Tripping, Swelling. Stress Fracture?
I was jogging last week and tripped in a hole in the road. I immediately could not run but limped home. I put elastic support on it, which does help keep down swelling . I walk on it put it is very painful, mostly walk on my heel. I was thinking that it is just a bad sprain , however the pain and swelling are getting worse. Could it be a stress fracture?
Based on your description, there is a possibility that you might have suffered a fracture. An xray of the injured local part will confirm the presence of a fracture.
If there is no fracture on xray, it could be a soft tissue injury. Adequate immobilization in the form of splinting for 3 weeks in needed for complete recovery. You should avoid bearing weight on the foot for the above period. Follow the RICE regime (rest, ice packing, compression bandage, elevation of foot end). Use analgesic medicines like Advil or Aleve as needed.
Consult an orthopedic surgeon for further management.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
