Pain In Knee And Ankle, Burning Sensation, Under Knee Cap

Three weeks ago I fell down the stairs at home right before leaving for work. My right heel caught on the carpet and I missed the last three stairs to the landing and landed with all my weight on my left knee and ankle . I was in so much pain I went to the minor injury clinic the next day for an exam. They took five x-rays of my knee and my ankle, there were no breaks. I went back the following week for a re-exam due to still being in pain. I was told to wait two more weeks, if not better to call for another follow up. I called Wednesday, was told to wait ANOTHER week and then call back. I am in constant, excruciating pain. There is a burning sensation five inches down my shin below my knee cap and five inches up my thigh above my knee cap. Is this typical for this type of injury? My ankle will feel burning below the ankle bone as well but not nearly as bad. I had surgery on this knee in 2001 and am worried it has done severe damage to my knee.
