Pain In Operated Knee, Joint Of Knee Folding Inside. Had Polio In Childhood, Got Operated. Treatment?
Good Evening Sir, My right leg is affected by polio when I was 4 years. In 1997 or 98 I got it operated. This helped me a lot for few years but after 5-6 years of operation, I am having pain in my operated knee. Later on, the joint of knee start folding inside and it adversly effect my spine. Now-a-days I can not walk more due to my knee problem. How can I get rid of this problem, Is there any way oe I have to live with this pain. Please suggest.
Hi Mr.Sanjeev, thanks for writing to HCM. GENU RECURVATUM (Hyperextension of the knee) is a normal finding in polio affected knee joint. The polio affected muscles will not have the inherent "tone" and strength in them so as to maintain the balance in the joints leading to deformities.
The pain you are experiencing in the knee could be due to overstretching of the soft tissues on the opposite side of the knee bend. And I think that only way to tackle this issue is by wearing a CALIPER which prevents the knee buckling and gives a straight limb.
I suggest you to consult an orthosurgeon and take his advice.
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
