Pain In Right Foot. History Of Arthritis, Have Titanium Joint On Left Foot. Cause Of Pain?

I am 56 with a history of mild arthritis and overnight have developed a pain in my right foot at the big toe joint that is enough to cause a limp. Three years ago I had surgery and a titanium joint put into my left foot. I assume same problem, although the catalist for the other was a broken bone spur. What could be causing this so suddenly? I had no injury prior to this.
Thanks,

Hello Bill,
Thanks for writing in.
I understand that you have a titanium plate to fix a bony spur (calcaneal spur probably). With this hhistory we have to think about arthritis affecting your big toem Gouty arthritis most commonly shows this feature though other arthritis also may have similar findings.
I suggest you consult your orthopaedic surgeon and get X ray of yourfoot. A blood uric acid level may be required to rule out gout.
Hope this helps.
