Pain In Sternum, Gastroscopy Showed Slight Erosion Of Oesophagus. Rabonik Dsr Taken, On Pantodac. Advise?
Two months ago had gerd lyk symp.was on rabonik dsr for 7 days but the dull irritating pain in sternum returned after stopping medicine. Gast2roent'st performed gastroscopy n said thr was slight erosion of esophagus and asked me to loose 15 kgs weight. I have two gallstones since 2006 at least. Shez put me on pantodac 40 for a month n said if the ache is still thr shell put me to a gastro surgeon for gallbladder removal.
The pain in the sternum & evidence of esophageal erosion on gastroscopy may be due to the reflux of acid from stomach to esophagus due to relaxation of the sphincter at the lower part of esophagus.
Management consists of: 1. Lifestyle modification- like weight reduction, sleeping on the left side, or with upper body raised. 2. Dietary modification- avoid consuming irritating substances such as acidic & rich foods, caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol. 3. Medical management- Proton pump inhibitors like Omeprazole, Pantoprazole, etc. (which prevent acid formation in stomach)
So...the medicine prescribed by your Doctor is correct...please continue them as advised.
If symptoms still persist, it will be better to consult a Gastro surgeon for further management.
There is no need to worry...you will be fine. Wish you a good health & speedy recovery. Thanks & Take care.
