Pain In The Anus While Passing Stools. Anal Fissure, Hemorrhoids?

hello, i am a male of 45 and experiencing pain like sensation in the anus which is irritating as it makes me feel aware all the time of the slight burning sensation. i try to contract my sphincter muscle now and then but the pain persists. during stool passage, i also get slight pain while defecating and when i use the toilet shower to wash myself the stream of water often hits certain spots on the anus that are slightly uncomfortable/painful. do i have an anal fissure or haemerrhoids? your advice would be greatly helpful. thank you

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my surgical experience, the sharp pain with such characteristics indicates possible fissure in and around anus usually posterior part of the anal region.

My recommendations at present to get faster better recovery until you manage to consult your surgeon for the diagnosis and further care about the issue:
- drink more liquids and maintain hydration, which is vital for stool consistency
- helping hand from bulk-forming laxative as ispaghula husk
- analgesic as paracetamol or diclofenac after meals if no history of drug sensitivity
- strict dietary measures to avoid provoking kinds of stuff like spices, non-veg
- sitz bath regularly with local application of xylocaine jelly over the anal region serve best.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
