Pain In The Lower Abdomen And Back. Have IBS. Grainy Stool. Cure?

Hi, I have been having lower abdominal pain accompanied with pain in both thighs and lower back pain for about 4 weeks now. I went to the doctor they did a CT scan but they said it was normal. Another doctor diagnosed me as IBS giving me probiotics. I feel that the probiotics are helping. However I have been having great difficulty moving my bowels. More difficult then usual. I then felt my anus and realized there was grainy soft stools coming out. I have extreme pain when I walk and stand. Blood tests and urine tests showed nothing. Gyne cleared me.

Hello!

Thank you for the query.

This can be IBS indeed. But before such diagnose, other possible reasons of your symptoms should be ruled out. Your symptoms can be also caused by inflammatory bowels diseases (Crohns disease, Ulcerative Colitis), chronic bowels infection or even colon cancer.
CT is a good test for general abdomen diagnostics, but it is not perfect for large intestine check up.

That is why colonoscopy is a test which should be done at first. Stool tests seems to be necessary as well. If nothing will be found, discuss with your doctor Rifaximine treatment (a special antibiotic which can set you free from IBS).

If it is about your back pain and thighs pain, it can be related to the intestines issues, however it can be also caused by spine disc herniation or nerve compression. That is why, if you will rule out large intestine issues, you should visit orthopedist and consider MRI of the spine.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
