Pain In The Middle Of Fingernail. What Could It Be?

Hello, I get a very sharp pain in the middle of my fingernail if i knock or bang it on anything. This has been happening now for approx 2 months, and is only on 1 finger (all other fingernails are fine) There is no swelling, redness, heat, cuts or fungus when looking at nail and surrounds. The pain hasn t spread ,it just remains in the same area on the nail and is extremely painful if knocked even lightly. What could it be? There is diabeties in my family.

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
Pain in the finger nail that too from last,

Two months,
Localized pain at one point,
Excruciating pain,
Diabetic family history,
No redness,
No swelling ,
No cuts or injury.

Pain may be in the bone of finger,
May be due to infection of bone of finger.
As there is history of diabetes so please don't take it lightly.
Few things are necessary for diagnosis as,

X ray of effected part,
Age is also important.
Blood examination for sugar, E S R ( if very high indicator of some chronic infection).
So consult a physician and get in above mentioned examination so that as early as possible diagnosis could be established.
Hope I have answered your query.
If further any question I will be happy to help.
Good luck.
Dr. HET.
