Pain On The Right Side Of Chest, Neck And Back. Any Suggestions?
My 17 yr old son is the QB for his football team. He had a game 3 days ago and this morning all of a sudden he felt some pain on the right side of his chest, neck and back of same side. He had practice this evening and couldn't run because it hurts him to inhale/deep breath. He also feels the discomfort when he bounces his body standing in place. Nothing else hurts right now except when he inhales and no other symptoms. Any suggestions?
There are different possible causes for pain on inhalation such as (1)spontaneous pneumonthorax- the lungs are surrounded by a lining called the pleura. In a pneumothorax, air accumulates between the lung and the chest wall, in this pleual space. In most cases, they can resolve without treatment
(2)pleuritis- this is inflammation of the pleural lining
(3)costochondritis- this is inflammation of the joints between the sternum and the ribs. This can cause severe pain and is treated with anti inflammatory pain killers.
It would be best for your son, to be seen by his doctor for physical examination and possibly a chest xray.
I hope this helps
