Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I have had a painful lump near my anus for about 5 days. I was previously really constipated so i assumed it was a hemorrhoid . The first day i noticed it i had a little fever which i was able to break due to having prescribed ibprophin for a knee injury when i fell. I have had a pilonidal cyst before and had surgery on it. but this is different it is lower and between my anus and vagina . Today i have noticed it is a bit bigger and is leaking a bit more blood and something else not sure what it is. I have tried cream, salt baths and wipe with baby wipes. I am 21 and havent had anything like this before. A coworker was telling me a few weeks ago how he thought he had a hemrrhoid but it turned out to be something completely different and was told if he waited another 24 hours it would have gotten into his blood stream and possibly killed him. I hope its nothing like that.
Most likely this is an abscess of this area. It is filled with pus what causes pain. Such abscess can be caused by rectal fistula due to inflammatory intestines disease (like Crohn disease) or by this area infection. It is necessary to go to the ER and have it incised as it can cause whole body infection.
After healing acute inflammation, colonoscopy should be performed for further diagnostics.
Hope this will help.
Regards.
