Painful Neck, Difficulty Swallowing, Soreness, Large Goitered Thyroid. Suggest?

I have pain in my neck around the adams apple with difficulty swallowing food and liquid. This area is sore to touch in several spots. No sore throat. I have large goitered thyroid both sides, not hypo or hyper thyroid though. Blood tests say thyroid is producing at low level. The pain described above has been more and more frequent over last 6 months.

dear sir/ ma'm, thanks for visiting HCM. as is clear from your query you have a large goitre. this thyroid gland enlargement at times can be in the posterior part of the neck as well, whereas what we see is only the anterior part. this posterior enlargement can be compressing the oesophagus and the trachea. though you have not mentioned about respiratory symptoms. you need MRI neck to see the posterior extension and must see your doctor with the report. regards!
