Pale And Foul-smelling Stools After Taking Imodium For Diarrhea. Should I Be Concerned?

Hi, Im a 24 year old female. Ive recently embraced a lactose intolerant life style (sorta), but every so often I want to push the limits. This last weekend I pushed them a little too much by eating as if I was not a lactose intolerant person and it resulted in intestinal chaos. I had diarrhea for almost 3 day, took lots of Imodium and gas-x. Now my poop is returning to normal consistency, but now its very pale, almost white. and smells bad. I noticed that the color of my stool changes a lot; but it is consistent to the amount of dairy I eat or do not eat (as in when I eat dairy it changes). I figure its simply because i need to be more strict with my diet, but I was wondering if I should be concerned?

Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Stool gets pale when there is no bilirubin secretion to the intestines. This may happen due to bile ducts stones or liver failure. Diarrhea may be a symptom of chronic pancreatitis which may be your main problem (instead of lactose intolerance).
Lactose intake should cause diarrhea and abdominal pain but no pale stool should appear.

I suggest you to visit your doctor and have liver tests, pancreas test and abdominal ultrasound. You should also consider abdominal CT to verify pancreas condition.

Hope this will help.
Regards.
