Part Of Old Tampon Broke Off ?

Today I pulled out an old tampon I had no idea was even up there. It had been up there for over a week, and I thought I was just getting a yeast infection. The symptoms were very mild, so I was pretty surprised to find out one was still left in. But when I took it out, it was all white, and I think just the string and cotton part of the tampon came out. I used Kotex, so I'm afraid that there still might be the purple plastic part that covers the cotton still in there? I felt around and couldn't feel anything ( and it should be pretty obvious right?), but I'm spotting blood and I'm worried that the giant plastic part is in there, and I can't notice it. Can this happen?
