Pelvic Pain After Having Done Colonoscopy. Is It Possible My Bowels Were Affected During The Process?

What is enterovaginal fistula? I had a hysterectomy in November of 2012 and in April of 2013 a colonoscopy. I have had increasing pelvic pain ever since the colonoscopy. I went to the dr. and had a ultra sound and when they inserted the scope they hit my bowel which was very painful.

Hi, Thanks for using HCM.

Enterovaginal fistula means a tract connecting between small intestine and your vagina.

Colonoscopy is relatively safe procedure in well trained doctors hand.Complications are minimal. If any injury to bowel wall at the time of procedure, which is not noticed at that time, can result in fistula formation. But chances are very very rare.

Fistula would have resulted even during Hysterectomy procedure, if there was any injury to bowel wall.
Inflammatory bowel disease or diverticulitis or injury to perineum are other causes for fistula.

Hope this helps you.

Regards
