Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

All the drugs that were prescribed to you SOMA (carisoprodol), SKELAXIN (metaxolone) & ROBAXIN (methocarbamol) are SKELETAL MUSCLE RELAXANTS. These drugs should not be used for prolonged periods of time as they tend to produce adverse reactions.

Try the below mentioned measures which could be helpful in alleviating your discogenic pain -

* avoid lifting heavy weights
* avoid forward bending activities
* Use a lumbosacral back support
* Intermittent pelvic traction
* Maintain optimum body weight,if you are obese
* Physiotherapy to strengthen your back muscles. Physiotherapy has to be done only after the acute pain has subsided.
* Judicious use of analgesics and muscle relaxants.

If the above measures fail to provide symptom relief, then an EPIDURAL STEROID injection may be of help.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
