Plantar Facetious, Pain In Ankle. Treatment?

I have dealt with plantar facetious a little over a year in both feet . I have done pretty much ever exercise, iced, stretched, and had orthodox put in my shoes. It went away on my left foot and sort of went away in my right foot but now I have a constant pain in my right foot and it feels worse now. But now it is a constant pain in the back of my ankle and side of the back area of my foot. It hurts even more when I stretch it and when their is pressure on the back and side, not the bottom(its not a spur). Any ideas what I have going on now?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Pain at the back of the ankle joint is most propably due to Retrocalcaneal bursitis.

The management of this condition includes -
* avoid using high heeled foot wear and tight fitting shoes
* avoiding activities that cause pain
* taking NSAID's like Advil or Aleve
* Icing the heel several times a day
* physical therapy to improve flexibility and strength around the ankle
* Over-the-counter or custom heel wedges may help to decrease the stress placed on the attachment of the Achilles tendon and the associated bursa.

If these interventions are ineffective, then some health care providers may inject a small amount of steroids into the bursa.

Very rarely, surgery may be necessary to remove the inflamed bursa.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
